The Village

Descend into the Ionian coast

Drymades (Dhermi) is one of the 7 villages of Himara and the second largest of the province. Builded on a steep slope, the village is surrounded by the Ceraunian mountains and descend into the Ionian coast.

Drymades (Dhermi) had been populated by the Epirote tribe of Chaonians centuries ago. It is believed that the village was first builded near the coast in order to trade goods, but over the centuries the population moved to higher altitude because of the  frequent raids by pirates.

The cultural patrimony  of the village is unique because of the great number of Christian Orthodox churches and monasteries some of which are extremely old (St Nicola 14th century, Panagia 15th century).
